Women’s Service
Our women’s support service is free, confidential and person-centred. It is for women who have experienced domestic abuse by a current or ex-partner .
We are here to listen and believe you. We provide emotional and practical support in a non – judgemental manner, and support you to make informed choices about your life with the options available to you.
When our phone lines are closed, Scotland’s Domestic Abuse & Forced Marriage helpline is available 24/7 on 0800 027 1234,
If the situation is an emergency, call 999.
Women accessing our Women’s Support service have a range of choices in how to interact with our service this can be on an ad hoc basis or with an allocated support practitioner through our in-person support service
The support we provide to women can cover one or many of the following:
- Risk identification and safety planning
- Support with housing options including, where appropriate, the provision of refuge accommodation
- Support to take control over their own finances and access to benefits support.
- Information regarding legal processes both in criminal and civil court, and support to access legal advice
- Help to rebuild self-esteem and confidence that may have been affected by domestic abuse
- Advocacy support within appropriate meetings and forums for women’s voice to be heard
- Help to recognise early warning signs/red flags in future relationships and understand what equal relationships look like
- Support to help understand different tactics perpetrators use and how this has impacted on their health and wellbeing
- Support to develop additional ways of coping with the impact of the abuse they have been subjected to
- Support to help rebuild relationships with children and other family members that have been fractured by the behaviour of the perpetrator
- Support to access support from other agencies and services
- Support to access group and peer support facilitated by GWA
